How to collect emails and phone numbers in Instagram and Facebook DMs

Ask people for their email or phone number in a DM before you send your link or offer. Keep a record of what they agreed to. Step by step with FlowAI.

Before you start

  • An Instagram Business or Creator account, or a Facebook Page, connected to FlowAI.
  • Your link or offer written as the DM (that's what they get after they reply).

Steps

  1. 1

    Open the Extras step

    In AI Builder, go to the Extras step and find "Collect their contact details".

  2. 2

    Choose what to ask for

    Switch on Email, Phone number, or both. The first DM asks for it, and your link is sent once they reply.

  3. 3

    Decide if sharing is required

    "Only send the link once they share" on means they have to reply with the detail to get your link. Off means they can reply SKIP and still get it.

    Write your question

    Write the question in your own words, like "Want the free guide? What's the best email to send it to?" Leave it blank to use FlowAI's default.

    Check exactly what they'll receive

    FlowAI shows the full message. After your question it adds a line you can't edit: "Reply with your email to get it. We'll only use it to follow up about this." If sharing isn't required, it also says they can reply SKIP.

    Activate

    Review the summary and click Activate. People who share their detail are saved in Contacts, and then get your DM.

Tips and if something goes wrong

  • FlowAI saves only what the person sends, plus the message they were shown and their reply as a consent record.
  • Asking for one thing keeps the message short and simple.
  • Only ask for what you'll actually use, and only follow up about what you told them.
